Photographs and a preview, where appropriate
Where appropriate, we take photographs and create an illustrative before-and-after smile preview. Both are complimentary; the preview does not establish suitability or predict treatment results.
Understand the next step
Find out how to proceed to a separate dental assessment, where clinical suitability, treatment options, risks and individual costs can be discussed.
From assessment to ongoing care
Your metal braces care journey
How fixed metal braces move teeth
Conventional metal braces use fixed brackets and wires to guide tooth movement. They can address a range of alignment and bite concerns, but the right approach depends on your assessment, not simply the appearance of the appliance.
Metal brackets are attached to the teeth and connected by a wire. Controlled forces guide planned movements, with adjustments during treatment. Braces stay in place rather than being taken out for meals, but still require care and cooperation.
Could this be appropriate for you?
Assessment considers crowding, spacing, bite relationships, tooth and gum health and the movements required. Some complex problems need additional approaches or referral. Metal braces cannot be described as suitable for every case, and dental disease may need attention first.
Assess teeth, gums and bite
An examination and any necessary records help establish the problems to address and whether other dental care is needed before orthodontic treatment.
Understand the proposed plan
Ask about the intended movements, limitations, estimated timescale and costs. Confirm any additional procedures, review arrangements and retention before agreeing to treatment.
Fit braces and monitor movement
Brackets and wires are fitted if treatment proceeds. Reviews allow movement and appliance condition to be checked and adjustments made. Appointment intervals depend on the individual plan.
Remove braces and plan ongoing retention
Retainers help limit movement after braces. Ask which retainers are proposed, how to wear and clean them and how checks, repairs and replacements are charged.
Fixed braces still need daily attention
Teeth can feel tender after fitting or adjustment, and brackets can rub. Follow appliance-specific cleaning and food advice to reduce plaque and breakages. Attend agreed reviews and contact the team about damage or persistent pain. Retention remains important once active treatment ends.
Other approaches may be a better fit.
Ceramic braces have tooth-coloured brackets, while clear aligners are removable and need consistent wear as instructed. Not every appliance can address every problem. Discuss suitable alternatives and the implications of leaving the teeth as they are.
Treatment costs
The central Fixed Brace fee below is a shared fixed-brace starting reference, not confirmation that every metal-brace plan is available at that price. Assessment and an appliance-specific quote are required. Ask for a written breakdown of records, fitting, adjustments, repairs, removal, retainers and ongoing checks, including any separate charges.

Before you decide
Treatment considerations
Fixed braces need daily cleaning, food precautions, reviews and retainers afterwards. Brackets or wires can rub, cause soreness or break. Poor cleaning can lead to decay, white marks and inflamed gums. Tooth roots may shorten, gums recede and teeth move in unwanted ways. Treatment may take longer than expected or need a revised plan; teeth can move again afterwards.
Your questions answered
Can metal braces treat every orthodontic problem?
No single appliance is suitable for every case. The teeth, bite, gum support and movements needed determine whether metal braces, another approach or referral is appropriate.
Do fixed braces work without any effort from me?
No. Although brackets stay attached, cleaning, food precautions and attending reviews matter. Some plans also need elastics or other instructions to be followed.
How long does metal-brace treatment take?
The timescale depends on the planned movements, response to treatment, appliance care and attendance. Ask for an individual estimate and how progress will be reviewed rather than relying on a fixed duration.
Are retainers automatically included in the starting fee?
Do not assume they are. Confirm the complete appliance-specific quote and whether retainer fitting, checks, repairs and replacement are included or charged separately.
