Most sports dental injuries are preventable.

Around a third of all dental injuries are sports-related. The vast majority involve front teeth — the most visible and costly to restore. A custom-fitted mouthguard provides dramatically more protection than anything you can buy off the shelf.

At Park Dental Care in Nottingham, we provide custom mouthguards moulded precisely to your teeth — for individuals and for clubs. And when trauma happens despite good preparation, we are experienced in assessing and reconstructing the damage.

Sports we see most

Dental trauma in sport is not limited to contact sports — though they account for the majority of cases.

Two ways we help

Before an injury and after one.

Custom Mouthguards

Moulded precisely to your teeth — not boiled in a pan. Custom guards stay in place, allow you to speak and breathe naturally, and provide significantly greater protection. Available for adults and children from £80.

Treatment

Trauma Reconstruction

If a dental injury has already happened, we will assess the damage thoroughly, give you a written treatment plan, and discuss the options — from same-day emergency care through to long-term reconstruction with implants or crowns.

On-pitch dental emergency — what to do

If a dental injury happens during a match or training session, the next few minutes matter. Share this with coaches and first-aiders.

✓Stay calm — panicked handling of a knocked-out tooth causes more damage
✓Find the tooth. Pick it up by the crown (white part) — do not touch the root
✓Do not scrub the tooth. Rinse gently in milk only — not water
✓Try to place the tooth back in the socket if the player is cooperative. Bite gently on gauze to hold it
✓If reimplantation on-pitch is not possible, store in milk or between cheek and gum
✓Get to a dentist within 30 minutes — call Park Dental Care immediately
✓Go to A&E if there is severe swelling, difficulty breathing, or loss of consciousness

Working with clubs and teams.

Park Dental Care works with local sports clubs to provide custom mouthguards for players at a team rate. We can attend training sessions for fittings, or arrange a dedicated clinic day at the practice. Youth academies and school sports teams are also welcome.

We also provide educational sessions for coaches and first-aiders on dental trauma response — what to do in the first minutes after an injury, and how to improve outcomes before professional help arrives.
