Are you unhappy with your smile? One option you may be considering in preparation for this year’s festive party season is dental veneers – natural-looking porcelain shells that bond to the front of your teeth to improve their appearance. Read on to find out whether veneers might be suitable for you.

What are veneers?
You probably associate veneers with the dazzling white smiles of reality TV and celebrity personalities, but not every client wants exaggerated Hollywood “perfection” or reality TV “bling”. Most people opt for natural-looking veneers that improve the size, shape, or colour of their teeth. Made from strong ceramics, veneers are bonded to the front surfaces of your natural teeth and can treat cosmetic issues such as discolouration or a slight gap between your front teeth. One of the best things about veneers is that they can be customised – when designing your veneers, we can take into account factors such as how widely you smile, your skin tone, and what you are hoping to accomplish with your new look.

What issues can veneers fix?
Veneers may be a good option for you if:
• You have severely discoloured teeth and whitening treatments aren’t working.
• One or more of your teeth has been damaged by an accident or worn down.
• You have a slightly crooked or misshapen tooth.
• You have a gap between your front teeth.

This is purely a guide to give you some idea of whether you might be a suitable candidate for veneers – we’d need to arrange a consultation appointment to take a look at your teeth before deciding which treatment would be best for you. The expert team at Park Dental Care have a tremendous amount of experience with cosmetic dentistry procedures and will be happy to assess your smile during a free initial appointment.

What other options do I have?
Once we’ve assessed your smile, we can suggest other ways of giving you a nicer smile. “Enlighten” professional tooth-whitening can achieve results normal “at-home” or “over-the-counter” whitening has failed to help. “Composite-bonding” can close spaces, repair chips or wear and even change the shape of your teeth, whilst the latest adult orthodontic options are a far cry from the braces you remember from childhood. Often these techniques can be combined to get a great aesthetic result without using veneers. We aim to help you work out the most appropriate answer to achieve the results you are after.

Do veneers need any special care?
No! Once your veneers are fitted, you’ll care for them just as you would your teeth – brush twice a day, floss at least once, and keep up with your regular dental check-ups and hygiene appointments. Ceramic veneers are stain-resistant, so you won’t need to worry about discolouration the same way that you do with natural teeth. The bond we use to fit veneers is extremely strong, but not indestructible – as with your natural teeth you shouldn’t try to open bottles or tear off labels with your veneers or you may risk cracking or chipping them.

How long do veneers last?
Typically, veneers last for 10-15 years before they need replacing.
